Literature Text
A feirce fire burns in her heart
She lives beneath the water
Many have tried and failed
No-one's ever caught her
She's captivated many,
Has had many men's lives
They've fell down into the sea
Where the beast lives and thrives
Iwas caught within her trap
At such an early age
I'd look for her in all weathers
I would brave the sea's rage
I became the best of them
The keenest of eye
Ever scanning the old waves
And never at the skies
And one day I noticed as
A tail became submerged
I swallowed hard, nerves of steel
Forward, myself I urged
I guided the boat to where
The waters were disturbed
I cut my wrist over them
Watch the blood flow seaward
Attracted by the sweet smell
Drifting down through the murk
Stirring the evil mermaid
From it's predat'ry lurk
After a bitter struggle
The beast was fin'lly caught
Lying, silent, at the helm
Quiet from the onslaught
I wasn't paying attention
I curse myself for that
She stared at me with dead eyes,
Pounced on me like a cat
Her torn nails ripped into me
I could smell her breath near
She whispered something to me
Suddenly it was clear
Needless to say, she got loose
With no pow'r to stand,
I was left with a strong urge
To hurry back to land
I sit here and tell you this
A very much changed man
Never to touch the waters
For th'rest of my lifespan
But what makes it ironic
I'll show you next my freind
For she made my feet and hands
Spread-out and strangely webbed
"Stay away from the waters"
She whispered in my ear
"You may pursue me better now
But you cannot get near"
She lives beneath the water
Many have tried and failed
No-one's ever caught her

Mermaid lovers the world over will be horrified by this poem, but think logically about them, if you spend your entire life eating nothing but live fish and forraging arould in seaweed, you're not going to have a beautiful complection and long blonde hair...
But that's enough of me keeping you, something tells me you'll be preoccupied enough with reading the poem.
Enjoy!
